Creating bronze sculptures was a wonderful way of using my creativity during the Covid-19 pandemic. My creative journey began by using sculpting wax as a medium and sculpted a 30 cm tall cat figurine, which I had cast in bronze. I became fascinated by the process, and decided to sign up for a training workshop in bronze casting, during which I went on to sculpt a dragon from solid bronze.
And as I became more familiar with the material, I joined a sculpting workshop at Atelier aan de Gracht in Amsterdam. Here, I created several more wax sculptures, including a woman's face that they later cast in bronze. I'm particularly proud her recognizable silhouette and the serene expression of her face.
Here, I continued working on sculping a woman's face.. and had this one also cast in bronze.. I was quite happy with the serene expression I managed to sculpt.
I continued on with a fantasy figure, a mermaid-like lady, who was part human, part tree. It formed a twisting and dynamic composition which captured the female form.
The last wax sculpture I created was the one of the boxer getting attacked by a Swan. The strength of the muscular male body contrasted very well with the elegant forms of the Swan. A very interesting sculpture when viewed from any angle.
